Interior decoration can be done only after the creation of the subfloor, mounting of electrical wiring, the arrangement of plumbing and heating systems. The list of finishing works on interior design includes:

  • putty and plaster;
  • painting and wallpapering the house;
  • laying tiles and the floor.

Ceiling Decoration

It is best to start repair work from the ceiling, as during the process you can spoil the floor or dirty the walls. Finishing the ceiling is considered the most difficult because of the inconvenience of applying materials, but even a beginner can cope with it.

The owner of a private house can choose among a large range of finishing materials. In addition, designers always come up with something new and original. Popular finishing options are stretch or suspended ceilings, painting or whitewashing, wallpapering the ceiling. Initially, you need to level the surface with plaster and putty, soaking the ceiling with a primer, after which you can apply the final coating.

Dropped Ceilings

Initially, you need to create a structure, fix it, and attach it to the ceiling. With the help of such ceilings, you can create a complex structure of lighting, as well as create a multi-level ceiling. The basis in the form of a structure should be puttied and painted or pasted over with wallpaper. The disadvantage of this type of ceiling is that it reduces the height of the room, taking some valuable living space.

Stretch Ceiling

The design of such a ceiling is also capable of hiding the overlap, giving access to various lighting options. The structure must be fixed directly to the walls. With the help of stretch ceilings, you can create a unique design. Since they propose a wide choice, you can diversify the ceilings with a print or pattern. You can also use a combination of the suspended and stretched ceilings.

The design appears like a profile with a special mechanism on the snap, which is mounted around the perimeter of the room. Installation of stretch ceilings should be entrusted to professionals.

Wallpapering

Pasting the ceiling with wallpaper is a budget option that nevertheless allows you to create an interesting design. Finishing is considered rather difficult to carry on since it will require skills and equipment. Moreover, it is almost impossible to do it yourself. For decoration, you can use only liquid or special ceiling wallpaper. Vinyl wallpaper is strictly forbidden to use, and the choice of wallpaper color will pleasantly surprise every demanding owner of a private house.

Whitewashing and Painting

This version of the ceiling finishing is known to everybody. It is the easiest option to implement. For finishing work you do not need knowledge or special skills. You can whitewash or paint yourself. The advantage lies in the low cost of work and its simplicity. Use quicklime for whitewashing, and for painting, you can choose any suitable paint, the color range is unlimited.

Wall Decoration

After the ceiling has been finished, you can proceed to the next stage – the decoration of the walls inside the house. Here the construction materials’ range is astonishing, as there are many options. The choice of materials directly depends on the style conception of the room and the design project that was developed earlier. Among the popular options should be noted wallpaper, ceramic tile, stone (natural and artificial), decorative plaster, drywall or simple painting.

In general, it can be said that finishing the walls is a bit simpler than finishing the ceilings. However, special skills for working with tools may also be required here. Generally, there is one main condition for all materials – before applying the finishing layer, care must be taken to ensure that the walls are perfectly smooth and that all roughness is removed using plaster and/or putty.

When choosing a material, it is important to take into account the style of the room, as well as the material from which the house is made itself. For example, in the bathroom it is better to give preference to ceramic tiles, which are easy to maintain, are resistant to moisture and temperature changes. For the bedroom, the best option would be wallpaper, decorative plaster, or drywall. The main thing is that used materials are combined with each other, create a single picture, and are able to serve for a long time. In general, it can be noted that identical materials can be used to finish walls and ceilings. The exception will be ceramic tiles and stone (natural or artificial), which are not used for finishing ceilings because of their impressive weight.

Floor Finish

The main work on finishing the floor was made while creating the foundation, the final interior work is best carried out at the end of the interior design. The choice of flooring depends on the type of building. For example, in a brick house with concrete floors, there are no restrictions on the choice of material. You can use both ceramic tiles and parquet or any other materials here.

If the house and the floors are made of wood, it is best to use boards, laminate, parquet, or linoleum. Ceramic tiles, stone, and similar materials should not be used. The limitation is due to the fact that the design of the wooden floor has its own characteristics. If desired, ceramic tiles with a warm floor system can be equipped on a wooden floor, but there is no guarantee that the floor will not be distorted. Also, the reliability, service life of such a floor will be a big question.

Finishing Features

Finishing a bathroom, kitchen or toilet requires increased attention to the choice of materials. For the finishing of these premises it is necessary to use materials that are resistant to temperature changes and elevated levels of humidity. Because of this, it is advised to use acrylic paints for ceilings; it is best to use ceramic tiles, wall paneling, or ordinary painting for walls. The floor is best finished with tile, stone, or linoleum.

There are no material restrictions for the decoration of a living room or a bedroom, but it is here that a person spends most of his time. Therefore it is better to use natural materials here.

The decoration of the hallway is a special part, the approach to which should be as thorough as possible. This room is located in close proximity to the outdoor, so you need to take this into account when choosing materials. It is best to give preference to materials with high moisture resistance, they must be resistant to sudden changes of temperature, should be easy to clean after contamination. Also in the corridor, you need to pay attention to the heat insulation, which must be of high quality.
