How to Create a Theme in Your Home

Your home should reflect your personality and lifestyle. You could incorporate your hobbies, interests, or even favourite movie collection in the interior design of your property. There are thousands of décor themes available, and it can be difficult to know where to begin.

You need to create a flow throughout your home so that each room progresses into the next. List your interests by rank – for example, you might have a passion for the beach, old fashioned cameras and 80s movies. Consider which interest and hobby would translate well into an interior design theme and go from there. You can incorporate this theme into your home with different accessories, textures, and colours.

Here are a few ways you can create a theme in your home and make it stylish.

Hire an Interior Designer

If you’re feeling out of your depth, it might be time to reach out to a professional for help. Interior designers can make your ideas come to life and take the stress and pressure off your shoulders. Repeat the Same Type of Materials

Your home doesn’t need to have a bold theme, like Disney characters or nautical accents. It could be as simple as using the same wood throughout the home to tie everything together. A theme can unite all the different rooms – while allowing each space to speak for itself. You could choose a material, like concrete, to incorporate into every room. For example, you could use spray-on concrete for a kitchen splashback and a concrete statement lamp in the living room.

Use the Same Colour in Several Places

A colour palette is one of the easiest ways to tie the home together. Opt for a neutral colour palette with one or two bold tones for a little colour and personality. For example, you could use driftwood accents in one room and faux fur in another. You could change up the accent colour for each room while staying consistent with the neutral colour tones throughout the home. Or, if colour isn’t your thing – use natural textures to mix up the rooms instead.

Use the Same Flooring

Flooring is one of the biggest decisions you need to make – especially if it’s the same throughout the home. The flooring needs to compliment the décor in each room and match the colour palette. Before deciding on a floor colour and material, make sure you lay a sample down in various areas to see how it looks in the light.
