Buying A Pool Pump: Which Factors Should You Consider?

A swimming pool is important, especially during the summer. But your pool must have the right pump to prevent water from stagnating. A pool pump is essential since it cleans the water by circulating and filtering dirt, bacteria, bugs, and other impurities. Selecting an appropriate swimming pool pump can be stressful but read below to find useful factors you have to consider.

The Brand

When you decide to buy a pool pump, you cannot underestimate the importance of a brand. Some are of quality, while others are not long-lasting. Some brands withstand water pressure. And so, you should not spend on weak ones that you have to repair frequently. Most quality pool pumps are a bit pricey. However, it’s best not to use the price only as a distinguishing factor. Consider the reputation of the brand. You can read customer reviews and settle for the best. Also, most old brands have served for a long time, and you can get genuine feedback from such.

The Type of Pool

When buying a pump, you have to consider your type of pool. Some pools are above ground while others are in-ground. Your type of pool affects the pump in that the former requires a top mount type of pump. A pool that requires the same water intake as that of the pump, a side mount one is the best.

The Size of a Pool

Before rushing to buy a pump, you have to know the size of a pool. The size relates to the water volume it can hold in gallons, and the amount of water will determine the rate of water flow. The flow rate refers to the amount of water pumped into the swimming pool during a given time.

The water in your pool must circulate every four hours daily to keep it clean. A pool pump is measured using gallons per minute (GPM), and this feature helps you make the right selection. It must be strong to facilitate water movements during this time. The general rule is that the smaller the swimming pool, the smaller the pump size. However, it should not be too small to function properly.

The Horsepower

The horsepower of your pump has to fit into the swimming pool filtering system. An appropriate horsepower saves you time, and it will also clean your pool well. Your pool pumps should have enough power to circulate the water without being too powerful. An overpowered pump can damage the filters, fittings, heater, and pipes.

A pool pump that is too big can also cause bubbles to build up, creating water waves that can damage its parts. The damages mostly happen if the pump is too powerful for water in the swimming pool. Overall, good horsepower must have an excellent filtration system.

Size of Yard

Before making the final choice, you have to consider your yard size. If you have a small space around the swimming pool, your best option is to settle for a small or medium-sized one. If you want to buy a large pump, then you must have a spacious outdoor swimming pool.

When purchasing a pool pump, you need to consider the horsepower, size of your pool, type of pool, brand, and size of your yard.
