7 Amazing And Useful Items That You Thought You Baby Didn’t Need Them

The nursery is halfway painted, mom’s maternity leave has been planned out, and everything is falling into place for your baby to arrive. Even the most basic of items are being picked up off of registry lists, and you’re preparing for a new life to enter their world. Here are some items that you might have left off of your list but actually need just as much as the swaddle blankets and bibs.

1. Pacifiers

I’m sure this may come as a surprise to many expecting parents out there, but not all babies love being soothed with a pacifier. However, other babies love these little knickknacks and use them as comfort for naps all throughout their childhood. Keep one in the package so that you have it ready when your baby does decide they want to give it a try.

2. A Humidifier

Although a humidifier seems like a luxury, one will become a necessity when your baby starts getting stuffy during their first winter. Sometimes babies can’t kick their congestion, and having a controlled air environment will help them get back to their happy selves.

If you live in a place with particularly dry air, the humidifier can also be used during the spring and summer months. Keep in mind that it’s important for your baby’s nursery to be well-ventilated, but having a humidifier on hand will help prevent dry skin and chapped lips. It can be especially beneficial for babies that have breathing issues.

It can also be helpful to have a smaller travel version of the humidifier if you’re going to be out of your home often. That way, wherever you are, there will be moisture in the air for your baby!

3. A Baby Swing

Although it’s nice to give your baby some alone time where they can do their own thing, sometimes they just want to be held.

A baby swing is a perfect place for your little one to feel safe and loved. Of course, most of your attention will be on the newborn, but always remember to give yourself some me-time when you can. This way, you will be refreshed and ready to care for your tiny human whenever they need you.

Make sure to register for a swing that comes with different motion settings and has a wide variety of melodies to help your baby drift off into dreamland.

4. A Baby Carrier

It’s important to be able to carry your baby as much as you can so they know they are loved and safe in the world.

Carriers provide the perfect opportunity for your baby to hang out with you. Having them be close to you also provides them with a sense of security that they will want to feel again and again. This is because they are used to the sound of your heartbeat and can imitate its rhythm.

When they feel this way, it will be easier for them to fall asleep without crying because they will trust that you are nearby.

5. A Teething Toy

When babies start teething, their gums become very sensitive, which can lead to some heartbreaking crying sessions. It’s hard to see your baby in pain and not be able to fix what they are feeling, but sometimes all they need is a little TLC. A teething toy will not only provide them with some relief from the pain, but it can also help clean their gums so that when new teeth start coming through, it is a little easier on them.

6. A Crib Sheet

Crib sheets seem like such an afterthought, but they really are important to have on hand. They protect your baby’s mattress from spit-ups and drool that can be rather difficult to clean out of the crib itself. Spills can also lead to mold growth, which is a big threat to the health of your baby because they are still in their earliest stages. Keep in mind that you will be changing their sheets and blankets daily, so this purchase could add up quickly if not planned for ahead of time.

7. A Diaper Pail

I know, I know – who likes to change dirty diapers? Well, if your baby is exclusively breastfed, then there’s no need for you to worry about the stench that disposables have. However, once your baby starts eating solids, the smell will be noticeable, and you don’t want that in your house. A diaper pail is a great way to keep your nursery smelling fresh and clean.

Thinking about the nursery is fun and rewarding, but you should also keep practicality in mind. There are seven great items that a lot of people don’t know their baby needs. Overall, these items will help your baby be happy and comfortable. You should also make sure to register for all the items you need or talk to your family about what you’ll need so they can get it for you. Congratulations on your new bundle of joy!
