4 Simple Items That Will Modernize Your House Interior

A complete interior upgrade isn’t always possible. After all, home makeovers require a lot of effort on your end, including time and money, and being able to dedicate these resources isn’t possible for everyone.

However, this doesn’t mean that you need to be stuck with the same old aesthetic that you’re already bored of. Even if you’re on a budget, it’s definitely possible to upgrade your look and make your home look more modern. Here are 4 simple items you can invest in to take your interior to the next level.

1.  Personalized Switch Plates

An easy way to add a touch of additional color to your interiors is to personalize your switch plates. Though these plates are usually a neutral white, you can wallpaper them, paint them, or sleeve plates of another color. This DIY change can also be used to camouflage your switch plates instead of making them stand out – simply choose a wallpaper or paint color that matches the rest of your walls instead.

Personalizing your switch plates is an extremely affordable upgrade – all you need to do is spend money on the wallpaper or paint you want to use to decorate the plates and spend a couple of hours doing up the outlet covers around your home. You can even make the change over time, going one room at a time (as your free time allows) until you’ve covered your whole house.

2.  New Lights

More likely than not, you’re using incandescent bulbs around your home. These are the most popular and most affordable option – but they’re far from the best.

Instead of sticking with your incandescent bulbs, consider switching over to LED lighting. These lights are far more durable and long-lasting, and LED Lighting Installation can have a host of other benefits as well. LED lights are less of a fire risk than incandescent bulbs (they run significantly cooler) and are smaller, so they don’t take away from the rest of your interior.

Additionally, they are available in a range of colors, including different hues of white, so you can control how bright or harsh the light in your home is. This helps you create a personalized environment where you can relax, unwind, and rest comfortably.

3.  Gold Leaf Detailing

Add a touch of affordable elegance by giving your home the gold leaf treatment. You can go all out and redo your chairs in gold leaf, or keep it subtle and just add gold leaf accents to items such as your lampshade. You can even use gold leaf to create some affordable canvas wall art!

You can get gold leaf booklets at your local craft store – they’re relatively affordable, and your biggest investment will likely be your time. You can also opt for a different metallic treatment, such as a silver leaf.

4.  Stair Runners

If you live in a split-level home, investing in a stair runner is a great way to add some personalization to your stairs while also making them safer. Stair runners generally don’t cost all that much, and you can even DIY them if you’re skilled with a sewing machine. Additionally, they help make your stairs less slippery, which is extremely useful if you’ve got kids or pets in your home.

For greater stability, add some padding under the stair runner as this will keep it in place.

The thought of redoing the interior of your home can seem intimidating if you don’t have a large budget or the ability to take significant time away from work. However, it’s definitely possible to make your home look fresh and new with just a small degree of effort and limited financial investment.
