4 Post-Renovation Cleaning Tips for Your Heating System

Since the onset of the pandemic and the growing preference for remote working, many homeowners have been spending more time indoors. As such, a significant majority have opted for more functional and practical home renovations. Renovations are a fantastic way to increase comfort, whether by optimizing remote work efficiency or by simply improving the aesthetics.

Despite the advantages, the process can be pretty draining, especially when working on large projects. Many breathe a sigh of relief when the project is complete. However, if you hired a contractor, it doesn’t end with them just packing up and leaving. Let’s face it: some of them do not do an excellent job of cleaning up after the project is over. Chances are, you’ll still need to do some cleaning yourself.

The problem is, many tend to forget debris in places you can’t see, like in your HVAC system. Don’t make that mistake. Here are four tips for cleaning your heating system, post-renovation.

Flush Water Heater Sediments

One of the most overlooked units that form your home’s heating system is the water heater. You never really notice if there’s a problem until there’s no hot water supply. After renovations, dust and debris may have accumulated inside the water heater. In other cases, your water heater may have been inadvertently damaged during the renovations.

General Air Conditioning & Plumbing water heater repair experts note that you’ll need to thoroughly inspect the water heater’s condition before turning it back on. Flush any sediments within the water heater to prevent damage to the heating element. Contact licensed heating experts for professional advice and repairs if you notice anything that needs to be done.

Clean or Replace HVAC Filters

A common yet hidden space where debris and dust accumulate during construction and renovation processes is inside your furnace and air conditioning unit. It can get stuck on the filters, which, if left unattended, cause accumulation of grime on the moving parts. This can skyrocket your energy bill and even lead to further damage to your system.

In normal circumstances, it’s advised to replace the air filters every 90 days. It’s a great way to avoid jeopardizing your HVAC system’s longevity, even with regular filter cleaning. After renovations, replace or clean the filters before turning the air conditioning unit back on. Ensure optimal air quality with clean filters.

Clean the Air Conditioner Coils

Air conditioner coils are crucial for your system’s functionality. They are responsible for removing or adding heat to your space. If dust and debris build-up from a renovation is left unchecked, they may adversely affect this ability. Airflow will also be affected, resulting in higher repair and utility bills.

Coil cleaning should therefore never be overlooked, especially after renovations. You’ll need to hire a licensed technician for that, given the technicalities involved. This way, you won’t need to worry about repair expenses due to damages. You can sit back, relax, and enjoy your newly renovated space.

Don’t Forget the Ducts

Your heating system consists of numerous ducts and pipes that allow the passage of air and water. After renovations, dust and debris will likely accumulate in these passageways. To get rid of the dirt and dust, you’ll need to hire professional duct cleaning services, as doing it yourself may lead to accidental damage to your heating system.

Expert cleaning will eliminate any dust, debris, or even bacteria build-up in the ducts and pipes. Aside from that, it will improve the air quality in your home, get rid of any foul smell, and remove any unwanted moisture. Your systems won’t have to work as hard, so you also can enjoy optimized performance while lowering your electricity bills.

Keep Your Home Dust-Free

A newly renovated and clean household is much more satisfying and comfortable. If the idea of post-construction cleaning doesn’t sit right with you, hiring a professional cleaning team may help. If you’re tired from a lengthy DIY renovation project, you don’t need to do any more hard work if someone else can do it for you.
